Rail service, bus and metro in Rome

An express rail service connect Fiumicino airport with Termini railway station, every 30 minutes from 6.30am - 11.30 pm (6am-11pm to the airport). A slower service leaves every 20 minutes (less often on Sunday) between 6am and 11.20pm (5am-10.30pm to Fiumicino). At night buses run from terminal C to TIburtina Station at 1.15, 2.15, 2.30 and 3.45.

From Ciampino airport, the Terravision coach service (www.terravision.it) departs from outside the arrivals hall every half hour (8.40am - 12.20am) and takes 40mins. Buses from Termini to Ciampino leave from Via Marsala 22 from 4.30am-7.30pm. The metro and bus services 492 and 649 (or night bus 40N) go to the city centre from Tiburtina. Rome's transport system is operated by ATAC which has a journey planner at www.atac.roma.it. Metro, bus and tram tickets are available from ATAC machines, newsstands, tourist information centres and some bars. Buses run from 5.30am-midnight, and bus stops have timetables posted with a list of lines and the stops of each line. Rome's metro system only skirts the major areas. Line A runs from 5.30am-9pm, after which is replaced by a shuttle bus service until 11.30pm. Line B runs from 5.30am-11.30pm. Both services run an hour later on Saturday night. One of the advantages of Rome is that the major sights are easily accessible by foot if you have a comfortable pair of walking shoes. There are some pedestrianised areas and not too manu hills which means that reliance on public transport is not essential.
